Once upon a time there was a little boy who lived with many brothers and sisters in a financially stable but eccentric household in which dad was non-threatening but weird and mom was, he thought, the Wicked Witch of the West.
Being very bright, but somewhat isolated, he learned early on to entertain himself playing with toys of his own devising. His favorite toy was his very own dick!! He played so much that his toy took on a symbolism of its own. It grew and grew, not only when it was erect (which apparently was frequently) but also when it was (rarely) flaccid.
The boy matured into an attractive young man. His toy by then had grown to nine inches and he had found other interesting places to play… like his butt. This was a good place and convenient since, like his toy, it was always handy.
He went on to do what so many of us wish for…not unlimited, uninhibited sex, but to work in a job that he truly loves. (Unlimited, uninhibited sex is also good.)
Scott O’Hara’s intelligence and writing ability is beyond question. His opinion and feelings about the porn industry and pornography in general is refreshing, even novel… but those of us involved in the supportive and/or therapeutic career fields will find some things abhorrent. He believes for instance that minors having sex with adults is OK and that the minors really control the situation (this may be sometimes true but more often the minor is overtly or subtly victimized). He sets no limits on issues of medical safety and is vaguely supportive of those who seroconvert…i.e. purposely become infected with HIV.
Scott’s social positions are controversial and provocative. His sometimes outrageous statements force the reader to clarify his opinions on a wide variety of issues. O’Hara’s writing is pleasant, lucid, and eminently readable. His poetry is OK, sometimes even moving. His book is well worth reading.
Having a porn star partner for a night might be nice. Most of all though, Scott seems to have been emotionally injured from childhood. This reviewer wants to comfort him and protect him from further harm and suffering. I really don’t think Mr. O’Hara would have wanted that!!
